NADRA Launches Online Birth & Death Registration System in Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a digital registration system for birth and death certificates across Pakistan. This initiative, in collaboration with provincial governments, enables hospitals to notify NADRA directly about births and deaths, streamlining the process.

Acting under the Federal Minister for Interior’s guidance, NADRA aims to enhance Pakistan’s civil registration system and transition from manual record-keeping to digital platforms. This aligns with the government’s goal of implementing efficient governance systems nationwide.

The modernized system is part of the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister on January 1, 2025. In its pilot phase, the project has been successfully implemented in over 50 hospitals and health centers across the country, with plans for nationwide expansion.

Through automated notifications, birth and death records are directly sent to NADRA’s database from participating facilities, reducing manual errors and ensuring timely information dissemination to parents and legal heirs. Early results show over 4,000 birth notifications and 400 death notifications processed, indicating citizen trust in the digital platform.

Citizens can now register births and deaths via the NADRA Mobile App or by visiting Union Council offices, providing flexibility and reducing waiting times. NADRA intends to extend the system to all provinces, promoting transparency and efficiency in the civil registration process.
